I have a Trust Spotlight Webcam (Item number: 16429). It used to work on my old PC that ran Windows XP and it works fine on my laptop that runs the 32 bit version of Windows 7. However, I can't make it work on my new PC that runs 64bit Windows 7. After plugging it in, I get the following message: 'USB Device Not Recognized. Device Status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)' Of course, I tried running Device Manager to update the driver; it says: 'The best driver software for your device is already installed.

Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.' So, I'm stuck. The homepage of the manufacturer says: 'No drivers are needed / available for this product.' On my laptop (where it works without problems) it says that the driver it uses is usbvideo.sys. I checked: a file named like that is present in my 64bit windows installation too.

Apparently, Hardware and Devices troubleshooter does exactly the same as Microsoft Fix it and, as expected from this, it comes with the exact same result. Method 2: There are no further updates I could download by Microsoft Update, I installed them all. As I wrote in my original post, Device Manager says: 'The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.' Method 3: Of course, some of what's written there is not relevant for a webcam (like changing power plan settings), but I tried the rest. None of them helped.

The vendor says that the webcam uses 'driverless technology: no need to install a driver, just plug & go'. So, 'n o drivers are needed / available for this product'. So, I'm still stuck.
