It was gold plated and extensively engraved. I played it a couple of times just out of curiosity. I recall it as having a rather dark sound, reasonable response, and being quite heavy. At the time, I had two Bbs, a Besson Brevette and a Bach Strad ML. The Selmer was even heavier than the Bach.

I've never seen another trumpet like that one, and I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about similar Selmers. As I recall, the shapes of the valves, buttons, pinky ring, etc., were similar to current Selmers, but the horn was very different. I've heard that vintage Selmers were very popular jazz and swing instruments. I find that hard to believe, since the instrument in question was quite a horse and required quite a bit of effort on from a player. When speaking about 'vintage' instruments, a horn out of the 60s or 70s wouldn't be all that old. There were many Selmer (Paris) trumpets around a half-century before that, even longer.
