You really have to dig for info in that little book that comes with the UV5R. I have the RTS software and it's a breeze to load, set up, and program into the radio. It even has automatic repeater offsets built in if you want to use them. Probably one of the easiest HT programs I've ever used. One annoying thing about the radio, at least to me, is that if you're listening to an FM broadcast on 88 to 108, when a signal comes on the FM ham channel the radio interrupts the broadcast frequency and reverts to the ham channel until the ham channel goes silent again. I don't have the UV-5R but the UV-B5, however I've programmed a few of the 5R's.
