The Amiga was an amazing machine. It's a shame Commodore fucked it up so badly (they never understood what they had). I was a huge Amiga fanatic, and got burnt by the Amiga's sad demise.
The lesson I took from it is not to trust commercial companies not to fuck things up. It's commodity hardware and FOSS for me from here on in. M68000 is pretty nice to code with - much nicer than the ugly x86 instruction set, and coding on the Amiga was my first introduction to assembly language. I think I started out with a language called E, a sort of OO pascal with the ability to trivially embed assembler, and then played more and more with assembler until that was the whole program.
